An arctic blast hit the Chicago area Thursday night and dangerous wind chills will continue through much of Friday.

Chicago already has warming centers open and ready for people who want to escape the cold. The city's main warming center at 10 South Kedzie will be open around the clock. People can call 3-1-1 for other locations.

The Anti-Cruelty Society advises pet owners to keep animals indoors as they can also suffer from frost and hypothermia within minutes.
