An autopsy has found the owner of a bar in the northwest suburbs was beaten to death before a fire destroyed his business.

The body of George Markopoulos, 67, was found by firefighters trying to extinguish the flames at the Horseshoe Inn in Schiller Park Thursday morning.

Markopoulos owned the bar and lived in an apartment behind it.

An autopsy showed Markopoulos died of injuries suffered from blunt head trauma.

His death has been ruled a homicide.
