Kenneth Puplava died last Tuesday when a steel structure collapsed on top of him at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview.
The lawsuit alleges that LeJeune steel company provided the steel with defective welds which caused the collapse.
It also claims Pepper Construction Company, the general contractor, failed to make the site conditions safe for the workers.
The companies did not return our calls for a comment.
