A Chicago alderman wants to put countdown timers on the city's red light cameras to cut down on accidents.

Ray Suarez introduced the ordinance on Wednesday. He thinks people will stop slamming on their brakes with the timers.

The idea has been floated before only to get shot down. The high cost is pointed to as the problem.

Also, traffic safety experts warn that countdown signals could make the accident problem worse, not better, as people hit the gas to try to beat the countdown.
