Fortified breast milk doesn't seem to help preemies' growth

Giving very pre-term babies fortified breast milk may not boost their growth over the first year of life.

A new study in the journal Pediatrics found infants weighing less than 5 pounds who were given fortified breast milk were no heavier or longer at the age of 12 months than those fed regular breast milk.

Scientists say one possibility that still needs to be investigated is whether a larger supplement dose would be more effective.
