A Chicago man faces aggravated drunk driving charges for striking and killing a man who was waiting for a tow truck on the shoulder of Insterstate 55.

Fernando Almaraz, 40, is being held on $1 million bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for April 7.

The hit-and-run crash happened Thursday in the northbound lanes of the Stevenson Expressway near Damen.

Witnesses called 911 and described the pickup truck Almaraz was driving as the vehicle that fatally struck 32-year-old Enrique Lopez.

Officers found Almaraz shortly after the crash.
