Gery Chico to lead state Board of Ed.

Former Chicago mayoral candidate Gery Chico is getting a new job.

Gov. Pat Quinn is appointing Chico to lead the Illinois State Board of Education.

Chico was appointed president of the Chicago Public Schools by former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley back in 1995 when the district was described as the worst in the country.

Chico will lead the state board at a time when districts all over Illinois are facing cuts because of the state's budget problems.
