Latin dance group celebrates 35 years

June 12, 2011 (CHICAGO)

This year, it is celebrating its 35th anniversary with the American Spanish Dance & Music Festival from June 16 to June 26.

One dancer and teacher, Israel Sanchez, has an amazing story to tell. In 2001, he was diagnosed with Brocheactasis, a genetic, obstructive lung disease with no cure. In 2004, he received a double-lung transplant. Sanchez was born in Chicago, but spent most of his life in Puerto Rico, where he developed a passion for cultural arts.

Sanchez and several fellow dancers of the Ensemble Espanol joined us in our ABC7 studio to give us a taste of Latin culture. You can catch the group during the festival.
