President Barack Obama welcomed the Dalai Lama to the White House Saturday, and the religious leader will be in Chicago Sunday.

The White House released a photo of the meeting.

Hours earlier, China condemned the meeting and urged Obama to rescind his invitation.

Instead, Obama and the Dalai Lama discussed the importance of protecting human rights of Tibetans.

The Dalai Lama comes to Chicago Sunday and is scheduled to speak at the UIC Pavilion.

He will lead a panel discussion at the Harris Theatre Monday.
