Army Ranger Ricardo Cerros Jr. died in a firefight Saturday in Afghanistan's Logar province. He lived in Gary until he was 5 years old but spent most of his life living in Salinas, California. His mother, Marguerite Cuevas, still lives in Gary.
It was Cerros' first deployment to Afghanistan.
