A south suburban man who admitted killing his son has been released from jail and will not face charges.

Matteson police said the father shot his 26-year-old son in self defense during a fight. The man had been hit with a metal bat.

Timothy Lithgow Jr. was killed Sunday in the living room of his family's home.

Investigators said he had been shot several times and both a metal bat and a handgun were found in the house.
