Even though people know about the dangers of smoking, about 20 percent of all Americans still light up. But almost 70 percent say want to quit, according to a new government report by the CDC.

The study also found there has been a decline in the last five years in the rate of smoking and smokers are actually smoking less.

Researchers say smokers who try to quit can double or even triple their chances of success by getting counseling, medicine or both.

This report appears in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and is part of the annual Great American Smokeout coming up on November 17.
