Chicago's Jennifer Hudson talks about family murders

November 24, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The Oscar winner told Ebony magazine that on Oct. 24 2008, she flew to Orlando, Fla., to be with her fiance David Otunga instead of staying home with her family in Chicago.

He was in a wrestling match there.

That day, Hudson's mother and brother were murdered at their family home in Chicago.

Her young nephew was found dead days later.

Her sister's estranged husband was later charged with all three murders.

Hudson credits her fiance for saving her life.

She told ebony magazine: "I flew out to see him. That's why I'm still here. I've never said that before, and I can't believe I just said that now."
