Ill. lawmakers to try new strategy on tax breaks

December 8, 2011 (SPRINGFIELD, Ill.)

Both those companies have threatened to leave the state because of corporate taxes.

The deal is very similar to one worked out in the senate last month.

According to House Minority Leader Tom Cross, the package will also include tax relief for other businesses, but it excludes tax breaks for individual workers.

"At the end of the day, we can't keep going down this road one company at a time," Cross said. "So we're gonna have to look at a broader approach of saying, How can we make this a state where people want to stay or come to do business?"

A vote on the deal will take place when lawmakers reconvene in Springfield next week.
