Tanning beds linked to common form of skin cancer

December 13, 2011

Scientists at the Yale School of Public Health found that young people who tanned on the indoor beds had a 69 percent increased chance of suffering from early-onset basal cell carcinoma.

Researchers say this seems especially true in females and may explain why some 70 percent of these cancers are seen in women.

They also noted that the risks increased with the number of years the tanning beds had been used.
