The Illinois treasurer's sale of unclaimed property has brought in more than $154,000, $30,000 more than anticipated.

About 100,000 unclaimed items from the state capitol basement vault were put up for auction this month.

This included expensive jewelry, rare coins and more, all left in safe deposit boxes in Illinois banks.

Money from the sale will be held in the property owners name indefinitely, but interest from the cash will be used to pay off pension fund obligations.
