Make Your Own Latkes

Also known as latkes, they are also a staple food item during Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Dan Raskin, fourth-generation co-owner of Manny's Cafeteria and Delicatessen (link: http://www.mannysdeli.com/), joined us in our ABC7 studio to talk about the history of latkes, and he showed us the special recipe of how they make potato pancakes at his family's deli.

Dan Raskin's Latkes Recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups Finely-Grated Raw Baking Potatoes
1/4 cup Grated Onion
2 Eggs, Beaten
1 tsp Salt
1/8 tsp Ground Black Pepper
1 tblsp Flour
1 tblsp Butter
2 tblsp Vegetable Oil

Directions:

Combine potatoes and onions

. Squeeze out excess liquid.

Add all other ingredients except butter and vegetable oil.
