Slow walk could be sign of Alzheimer's

A new study presented at the Academy of Neurology's annual meeting said a person who already is walking slowly at around age 60 may have an increased risk of developing dementia.

That study also found that grip strength in middle-age was linked to the chance of a stroke.

Scientists say more research is needed to understand why and what other factors are involved. But, they add, these are basic office tests that can provide insight into risk of dementia and stroke, and they can easily be performed by a neurologist or general practitioner.
