Council to vote on New Lenox weapons sales ordinance

The mayor of southwest suburban New Lenox is working on an ordinance that would tighten security at stores that sell weapons.

This comes after more than a dozen guns were stolen from downrange sports last December in two separate robberies.

The proposed ordinance requires that the stores put up security cameras and install silent alarms and requires retailers to put their weapons away after hours so people can't see them from the outside.

The village's council will vote on the measure on Monday night.
