2 charged in latest Bucktown mugging

March 2, 2012 (CHICAGO)

People in Bucktown are hoping that these arrests are connected to the other strong-arm robberies that have been taking place.

Travion Lockett, 17, is charged as an adult and a 16-year-old is charged as a juvenile in a strong-arm robbery Thursday at approximately 10:22 a.m. in the 1500-block of North Leavitt. Police say Lockett punched a woman in the face and the 16-year-old stole her purse. They fled with a third suspect, who has not been caught.

Police arrested the two teens after a postal worker wrote down their license plate number. Another area resident called 911.

"The girl was screaming," said one witness. "I think I heard another voice yelling help. I got off my bike and turned around and saw them struggling with each other, and then I was just fumbling to get my phone and try and call the police. And then another guy also saw what was happening and he went over to her after because they got away really quickly."

There have been at least a dozen other similar incidents in the Bucktown and Wicker Park area in recent months. Police are questioning the suspects about those other incidents.
