The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the U.S. Justice Department warned Apple and 5 U.S. publishers that it plans to sue them for allegedly conspiring to raise the price of electronic books for Apple users as well as rivals including Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

The case centers on Apple's work to change the way publishers charged for e-books prior to the launch of the first iPad in 2010.
