The federal government's new quit smoking campaign is set to launch a $54 million dollar media blitz called Tips from Former Smokers.

The ad features ex-smokers who now suffer from a variety of illnesses.

The idea is to shock current smokers into quitting, with hard hitting-stories and graphic images

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is hoping the spots, which begin Monday, will persuade as many as 5,000 Americans to stop smoking.
