Man killed in West Side police-involved shooting

The shooting happened on Kostner near 15th Street.

Officers say they were called to a theft in progress when they found a man inside a vacant building. According to authorities, when an officer tried to conduct a pat down, the man pulled out a gun.

The officer fired his gun, killing the man.

"There's been a number of police-involved shootings with a number of weapons recovered from offenders that insists to carry weapons or point them at police in attempts to gain control when officer is in the process of patting him down," said Fraternal Order of Police spokesperson Pat Camden.

No police officers were injured in the incident. A weapon was recovered at the scene.
