ChiArts to take over old Malcolm X college space

April 9, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The school, known as "ChiArts," is currently sharing space with Doolittle Elementary School.

The move will give the school access to dance studios, an auditorium and computer labs. This will also lead to an eventual expansion of arts and academic programs.

It's a welcome decision to the ChiArts principal.

"To be able to move into a facility that is going to be suitable for our program is an amazing opportunity for our students and staff," said principal Terri Milsap. "Also, it's a great opportunity for the city, because the facility will be an arts center. So we're really, really just thankful."

Six-hundred students are chosen to attend the school. Every day, students spend five hours studying in class, but then they train in the arts for another three hours.
