Heart association: heart health not tied to teeth

Despite the popular belief, the health of your teeth and heart may have nothing to do with each other after all.

A new scientific statement from the American Heart Association says there is no convincing evidence linking untreated gum disease to heart disease or stroke.

It also says there is no proof that treating gum disease can reduce your risk of heart disease or stroke.
