An 18-year old man is charged with a hate crime for his alleged role in a robbery in west suburban Oak Park.

Authorities say Alton Hayes III was one of two people who attacked a man walking in the 600-block of North Kenilworth Avenue just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Hayes reportedly picked up a large tree branch, pointed it at the man and made a racially charged comment during the robbery.

Hayes and a 15-year-old boy were arrested a short time later. He is being held on $80,000 bond and is due in court Friday.
