Rally protests Quinn's proposed Medicaid cuts

April 22, 2012 (CHICAGO)

This is one of 17 stops around the state for the Health Care Council of Illinois.

It says the cuts will devastate nursing home care-- especially at this facility where half the residents are supported by Medicaid.

Nursing home residents spent the day making cards to send to the governor protesting his plan.

This week Quinn proposed $2.7 billion in Medicaid cuts.

He would trim about 215,000 people from Medicaid rolls and cut reimbursements to doctors and hospitals.

Quinn says the severe cuts are needed to save the Medicaid program from collapse.
