Forest Park police said the victim called his own number and made arrangements to meet with the person who answered.
The two men met outside a 7-Eleven store around 3 Saturday afternoon at Roosevelt Road and Des Plaines Avenue..
Police said it appears the shooting was the result of an attempted robbery.
The victim was taken to the hospital and his condition is unknown.
Police are still searching for the gunman.
