Reverend John Regan, 48, stole $300,000 from a Roselle parish and gambled it away. He took the money from Saint Walter's Church in 2006 within two months of starting there.
A judge ruled Regan must maintain a factory job to repay the money. Regan pleaded guilty and served two months in jail.
He remains an ordained priest.
