Garbage grid collection begins Monday on North Side

The Department of Streets and Sanitation is rolling out the new grid garbage collection system. This replaces the current ward by ward system.

Crews have been posting notices on garbage cans and on the front doors of people who live in seven North Side wards to remind them of the change

"Every decision we make must work for the taxpayers," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement. "With the grid system we are choosing efficiency over politics. We look forward to rolling out the grid system in Chicago and will continue to look for look for more ways to find efficiencies in our operations."
