A firefighter suffered heat related injuries at a south side home that went up in flames around 7 a.m.
The fire spread to a home next door in the 400 block of East 42nd Street.
No one was home at the time.
Then about two hours later, a machine caught fire at Wheatland Tube Factory in the 2300 block of West 47th Street.
A Level 1 Hazmat situation was called as a precaution.
Firefighters had to be relieved quickly due to the intense heat.
"There's a lot of heat conditions we have to deal with," said CFD Chief Curtis Powell. "The company's been working a previous fire here on the South Side. So, (it's) really taxing on us. So right now we set up a rehab area for them to get some rest."
No one was injured and no hazardous materials were involved at the company that makes electrical and galvanized metal tubing.
