The workers had been planning to take over the company from Serious Energy, and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it, but Serious Energy suddenly announced plans to liquidate.
The workers gathered outside Mesirow Financial because of the company's strong connections to Mayor Rahm Emanuel and other high-powered officials. They are calling on them to help save their jobs.
Mesirow Financial did not return calls for comment.
