On Thursday, the City of Chicago begins demolishing the first vacant buildings the mayor and police superintendent say are hubs of gang activity.

The city says a dozen buildings will be torn down, including one in the 7100-block of S. Rhodes and another building at 67th and Laflin.

Three days ago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Superintendent Garry McCarthy announced the new crime fighting plan.
