New video shows Curiosity landing on Mars

August 11, 2012

The video shows the rover's heat shield separating and falling to mars surface.

Coming up Sunday morning on NewsViews, an astronomer from the Adler Planetarium talks about why this landing excited so many people.

"This is just an incredible technical achievement," Dr. Mark Hammergren says. "Like landing people on the moon. It wasn't just all about the astronauts stepping out onto the moon, it wasn't just about their personalities. It was the fact that we humans did this. We went there. Look at this incredible machine, look what it had to do and it worked perfectly."

You can see the entire NewsViews interview with Dr. Hammergren coming up on our news beginning Sunday morning at 8.
