Classes start Monday for Track E schools

About a third of Chicago's public school students are getting ready for their first day of classes Monday in the district's so-called Track E schools.

Monday also marks the start of the longer seven-hour school day tentatively agreed upon by the teacher's union and district administrators.

Contract negotiations continue between the two sides and a teacher's strike remains a possibility after August 17.

All other schools not on a Track E schedule are scheduled to resume classes after Labor Day.
