6-year-old girl Ariyah Bohannon missing from Calumet Park home

August 15, 2012 (CALUMET PARK, Ill.)

Ariyah Bohannon was last seen walking with her mother, Zetra Bohannon, 22, Tuesday afternoon near the 1400-block of West 123rd. Family members say the girl could be in danger because her mother, who does not have custody of the girl, has a history of mental illness.

Maddie Flowers, 72, has cared for her great-granddaughter, Ariyah, since she was three months old. Flowers said Bohannon has a history of running away, aggression, and substance abuse. Medical records shared by her family also show she was hospitalized for schizophrenia in 2010. They say Bohannon needs medication.

Ariyah is about 4'6". Her black hair was braided and in a ponytail, and she was also wearing a yellow-stripped tank top and pink sandals with butterflies.

Anyone with information about her whereabouts should call Calumet Park Police. Illinois State Police believe the girl and her mother are still in Illinois, so they did not issue an Amber Alert. The U.S. Marshals Service is also involved in the investigation.
