The Illinois Department of Transportation closed the local lanes inbound around Pershing and 35th, creating gapers delays in the express lanes. The lanes reopened around 8:20 a.m.
Killed was motorcyclist Sylvester D. Dickson, of Chicago, who died after he struck the back of a car attempting to change lanes.
Police say the 1996 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the rear of the silver 2002 four-door Cadillac driven by a 16-year-old around 5:15 a.m.
Dickson was pronounced dead on the scene, state police said. The driver of the 2002 Cadillac DeVille was not injured. No injuries were reported among his four passengers either.
There was no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The driver of the Cadillac, Alonzo Cozart, of Chicago, was cited with driving an uninsured vehicle, driving below the minimum speed limit, and driving without a license.
