Calorie-restriction diet won't lead to longer life, study suggests

August 30, 2012

A new study suggests severely limiting calories will not prolong life-- at least in monkeys.

Researchers at the National Institute of Aging have been studying the effects of calorie restrictions on monkeys for more than two decades. Surprisingly, they have found that older monkeys who ate fewer calories didn't live any longer than their counterparts who weren't dieting.

But the author of the study, which was published in the journal Nature, says more research is needed on the topic.
