"Even with a lake breeze bearing down on the airport with a gush of cooler air," said ABC7 meteorologist Mike Caplan, "O'Hare has hit 90 this afternoon with Gulf Coast-like humidity levels."
Wednesday will likely be just as hot as Tuesday, but a cold front is on the way.
"Very often, out ahead of these features, the air is compressed, which heats it further," said Caplan. "I'm forecasting 90 degrees for Wednesday along with the threat of locally strong to severe thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening."
