Stop Sign Cameras: Washington DC installing cameras in stop signs

September 19, 2012 (NEW YORK)

The nation's capital is following the lead of California, where photo enforced signs have been raking in the dough.

Washington DC is gearing up to install 16 stop sign cameras by the end of the year -- mostly at intersections near schools.

Run through one of them and it will cost you $50.

City officials say it's not about the revenue -- it's about safety.

Before the cameras are installed, DC officials say, they will give residents a 30-day warning period to make sure they know the cameras are there.
