A Chicago priest who battled church leaders after he was told he had to leave the rectory of his longtime church is settling in to his Oak Lawn home.

Father Dan Mallette, 80, lived at the rectory of Saint Margaret of Scotland for 35 years. He didn't want to leave, but there's a new pastor, so the church said it was time to go.

After resisting the move, he's now living in Oak Lawn.

"I'm very happy, still not a monsignor or bishop, but doing the best I can for 80," Father Mallette said. Father Mallette is a "pastor emeritus" at Saint Margaret of Scotland.
