The Commission on Chicago Landmarks Thursday voted not to save the former Prentice Women's Hospital with landmark status.

The commission's ruling means the building's owner, Northwestern University, can move ahead with plans to demolish Prentice and replace it with a medical research lab as part of Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Preservation groups had argued the building's unique cloverleaf design made it worth saving.
