Chicago police officer saves choking 2-year-old

November 21, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Officer Susan Doody was talking with a crossing guard at 83rd Place and Saint Louis Wednesday morning. That's when the mother of 2-year-old Marquel came running out of nearby home with her son calling for help. He was choking on a granola bar and was not breathing.

The officer flipped the boy over her knee and began performing the Heimlich maneuver.

"And right before the paramedics came, the granola bar began dislodging itself from his mouth and he began breathing again," said Officer Susan Doody.

The boy's mother says the officer's quick action saved her son's life.
