Protesters gathered at Cityfront Plaza along Michigan Avenue Thursday afternoon to call for higher wages for the city's food and retail workers.

The protest was organized by the Workers Organizing Committee of Chicago.

Protesters are starting with a rally then plan to march along Michigan Avenue. They will deliver a letter to the Greater North Michigan Avenue Association.

Organizers say the current wages put thousands of workers below the poverty line.
