Police responding to an early morning robbery at Greenleaf Food Mart, located in the 1600-block of South Michigan, chased the suspect as he fled. Officials say the man was taken into custody near Wabash and 18th. Police say he had the machine gun and an extended clip on him.
The suspect was injured in the chase and transported to an area hospital.
No one was injured in the robbery.
