A scare at an elementary school in the far northwest suburbs prompted police to search the vicinity.

A shell casing was found in the cafeteria at Crosby Elementary School in Harvard Monday morning.

Students were kept in their classrooms for more than an hour following the disturbing discovery.

The shell came from a .22-caliber gun.

Officers and School District 50 staffers searched the school but did not find any other suspicious material.
