Churches across Chicago and the suburbs hold Christmas services Tuesday morning. For many, the Christmas tradition began at midnight.

Cardinal Francis George led the celebration at Holy Name Cathedral at 12 a.m.

Hundreds gathered for the customary Midnight Mass.

In the past, Cardinal George has visited the sick at area hospitals and prisoners at Cook County jail. He said he is unable to do that this year.

Cardinal George recently underwent months of treatment to battle cancer.
