Quinn, legislative leaders to meet Saturday on pension crisis

January 4, 2013

Quinn spoke about it after an event in Wheaton Friday. The talks may be helped by news that House Speaker Michael Madigan has agreed to set aside the issue of shifting a portion of teacher retirement benefits to local school districts.

Republicans have said that shifting those costs would raise property taxes.

"It was such a paramount importance that we act now to begin that process of pension reform that he was willing to take that particular issue off the table," Quinn said.

Quinn wants a pension reform deal by January 9th, the end of the current legislative session.
