Elgin man arrested for allegedly burglarizing church

An Elgin man has been arrested in connection with the burglary of a church.

Elgin police say Daniel Wells, 43, entered Saint Joseph Catholic Church on January 14 and took two brass holy water fonts off the wall.

He sold the items to a recycler for cash, according to police.

The fonts were valued at about $1000.

Wells faces charges of burglary and theft from a house of worship.
