Des Plaines is just one of several communities where flood waters had yet to recede completely Sunday. Also partially under water are Wheaton, Marseilles, McHenry County and Moline.
Evacuations continued in west suburban Wheaton Sunday amid fears a levee could burst and send water from a retention pond into an already soaked subdivision.
Authorities said the affected area was near Brentwood and Briarcliff. A reverse 911 call alerted residents to the threat.
Firefighters also were going door-to-door for anyone who might have missed the message.
